CWA wins Birmingham apartment contract

Birmingham civil and structural engineering consultancy CWA Ltd has been appointed to deliver a €5.9 million (£5 million) scheme to build dozens of new homes in the city's Jewellery Quarter. The city centre-based consultancy has secured the contract to carry out civil and structural engineering work on a 63-apartment scheme bounded by Edward Street, Helena Street and Scotland Street. Construction of two apartment buildings, by Trigram Properties Ltd, has begun. The overlooks a shared courtyard with ground floor commercial units and car parking. The site is less than half a mile from Brindley Place and the new Paradise development in a much sought-after area.

A total of 36 two-bedroom apartments are planned, with 27 one-bed apartments. The foundations were completed in late December. CWA director Jim O'Donnell said the proposed structure was on a challenging site with difficult ground conditions on a sloped area with existing buildings on three sides. He said CWA was pleased to be involved in such an exciting project which promises to modernise the area while complementing existing buildings
