Terence O’Rourke shortlisted in the MIPIM awards
Terence O’Rourke Ltd and architects Foster & Partners have been shortlisted at the MIPIM awards for their exceptional work with the McLaren Production Centre.
Tim Hancock, Terence O’Rourke managing director comments: “The MIPIM awards annually recognise the most innovative industry projects, with only the most outstanding technical and architectural work being shortlisted.
“It’s a great honour for us to be recognised in this way, especially as the McLaren Production Centre is the only UK project nominated in our category.”
The project is shortlisted under the new category of Best Industrial and Logistics Development which was added this year. The new category reflects changes in the real estate industry and places more emphasis on the specialist technical requirements of specific projects.
Work at the McLaren Production Centre was completed towards the end of 2011 and involved Terence O’Rourke overseeing the planning, environmental and design aspects of the project. The company also worked closely with Foster & Partners, the building architect for the development.
The project provided bespoke accommodation for McLaren to produce its new, high performance MP4-12C sports vehicles. McLaren plans to produce more than 4,000 of its MP4-12C sports vehicles at the new facility by 2015, and has aspirations to develop a new model each year.
Tim continues: “The project required a number of our specialist skills including; architecture, landscape architecture, environmental consultancy, master and town planning.
“Our landscape-led plan built on the success of the existing McLaren campus to ensure new buildings were carefully sited and designed on the proposed green belt site.”
More than 100 completed or upcoming projects were considered before selecting three finalists in each category. This year, the geographical spread of projects provides an exceptional panorama of the global market. 47 countries are represented, including Vietnam, Uruguay, Spain, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Brazil, Hong Kong, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States. Combined with the jury’s ranking, MIPIM delegates’ vote during the four-day event to determine the winners.
