Modernisation programme follows sale of Best Western Hotel in Bath

A three-year modernisation programme designed to transform one of Bath’s oldest hotels, The Abbey, into a mid-market boutique offering, has today been announced by the hotel’s new owners Ian and Christa Taylor.

The Taylors — both experienced hoteliers who developed and sold Cotswold House and The Noel Arms in Chipping Campden — purchased the hotel from privately-owned hotel group, Compass Hotels Ltd through leading property adviser Christie + Co..

The three-star hotel, which will continue to be marketed under the Best Western brand under the new owners, enjoys trading levels in line with the city of Bath, with your-round average occupancy levels of 80 per cent.

The hotel will undergo a phased modernisation programme which starting with improvements to the terrace area. Further works are planned this year to transform the restaurant and the ground floor of the hotel. A full refurbishment of the hotel’s 60 bedrooms will then be undertaken.

Acting for Compass Hotels Ltd in this sale, Christie + Co ran a discreet off market campaign to avoid any impact on trade or disruption to staff. Jeremy Jones, Director of Christie + Co headed the sale.
