Liberec Plaza starts its repositioning with grand opening of DinoPark

The shopping centre Liberec Plaza is opening a unique entertainment and educational indoor DinoPark to its visitors on the 1st February 2012. DinoPark, spread over two floors, will enable visitors to „experience the whole evolution of the Earth from its formation until to the modern times“.

“In the time of economic recession and excess of shopping centres within the city it is more important than ever to carefully consider how to attract customers. The idea of an indoor DinoPark fits this purpose and introduces an educational, fun and family oriented experience to the people of Liberec and the region. With this great addition to our project, we are extending our offer to a significantly wider catchment area. We have been able to join forces with West Media company, operator of DinoPark and after 8 months of construction, we are happy and excited to see the result of our co-operation,” said Sagiv Meger, Plaza Centers CR CEO.

West Media operates 4 outdoor DinoParks in the Czech Republic and one in Slovakia. “Liberec is the first city, where we have built the DinoPark completely inside. Covering 6,000 sq. m, we have created a unique concept, which cannot be compared with anything we have done so far,“ says Jiří Machálek from West Media. “To build such a huge permanent DinoPark inside a shopping centre was a challenge but I am proud to say we have managed it in the end,“ adds Machálek.

“DinoPark is the first step in the repositioning of Liberec Plaza. It will without a doubt further increase the current 5 million visitors we receive annually and will greatly increase the attractiveness of our shopping centre to retailers and visitors. We want to focus further on entertainment, relaxation, education, sports and health & beauty concepts. DinoPark is the first and very important step for us on this journey.“ added Meger from Plaza Centers CR.

Filip Kollmer, Senior Retail Consultant at Jones Lang LaSalle Czech Republic, comments the situation on the market in Liberec: “Plaza Centers have identified a gap in the Liberec regional market and are actively pursuing the idea of creating a completely unique concept. The aim is to provide a wider and very different offer from the existing centres to have no competition in the region and reach beyond the borders of Czech Republic to the neighbouring regions of Poland and Germany.”

Kolmer continues: “In the past few years, we are observing a trend, where entertainment and services are becoming more and more popular in the shopping centres in Western Europe and visitors are starting to treat them as centres where they don’t want to do just their shopping but also want to spend more quality time with their family and friends. Liberec Plaza could become the first modern concept of this kind in the Czech Republic.”
