Elaine Brown appointed by Ryden
Ryden has expanded its licensed and leisure services into England with the appointment of licensed trade consultant Elaine Brown. Elaine, who will be based in the firm’s Leeds office, started her career at regional brewers Joshua Tetley, which later became part of Allied Domecq Group; owners of the Vanguard Lease Company that was purchased by Punch Taverns.
In her last five years at Punch Taverns, Elaine was a successful area manager winning the Business Relationship Manager of the Year Award for Yorkshire and Humberside in 2006 and was a National Finalist in the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers Operations Manager of the Year Awards 2007. After leaving Punch Taverns, Elaine successfully set up her own consultancy business where she worked closely with the BII on PIRRS (Pubs Independent Rent Review Scheme).
Commenting on the current licensed and leisure market in Yorkshire, Elaine said: “Times are tough out there in the pub trade - or that’s what is commonly believed to be the case, because in recent years we have seen the introduction of the smoking ban, the effect of the credit crunch, rising inflation and the duty escalator, with the biggest threat coming from the price-cutting at the supermarkets. However, the fact that a lot of pubs are on the market means that there is some excellent real estate to be acquired, either to remain as a pub or for alternative use development. True entrepreneurs who have first class customer service ethics, personality, good business acumen and who are not afraid of hard work are presented by a wealth of opportunities."
